Meeting Minutes

October 1, 2005

   

I.                     CALL TO ORDER

II.                   Scholarship Committee

Discussed commit composition, it was recommended that a young adult also be included as a member.

III.                  Journalism and Illustration Contest

The submission window will be February to April 2006 for works that meet the theme/length criteria. The Education Committee will continue planning for the contest.

IV.               Judiciary Committee

Steve Bollinger reported that there are no Native American Judges in California. Governor Schwarzaneggar can appoint 250 judges, need to get at least one Native American Judge appointed. Chairwoman Doherty stated that Mr. Bollinger is creating a candidate list and asked Ron Andrade to assist.

V.                 California Reading Association Conference

To be held November 4, 2005. Caucus has purchased 25 tickets for persons interested in attending. Two Executive Board Members were interested, Kyle and Ashley Crandall, the remaining will be available for Caucus members.

VI.               Other

Discussion centered around the need for a precint partner program and need to partner with tribes and each central committee to help identify precint area boundaries.

Ron Andrade volunteered to look into and start calling central committees. Kyle Crandall also agreed to assist.

Propositions up for consideration. No on first 6, yes on last 2.

Site has fallen through for Women’s Issues forum, still looking for alternate site.
